Story 1 | Volume 1 - Alliance

"Hell... it's about time!"
                         - Tychus Findlay | StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty

Year: 2240 UY     Date: 10.3.2240 UY     Time: 14:1150 (2:11 PM)     Location: Backwater Station (Haven)     Weather: Rainy (57* F)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The year is 2240 UY: approximately 15 Universal Years after the end of the Terran Civil War. For the past 7 UY, the Terran Dominion has been confronting a series of conflicts across the Koprulu Sector that has sent much of their galaxy into unrest. These series of internal battles have been dubbed by the people as the "Guild Wars". Over the course of the Guild Wars, many Terran worlds have split themselves from the Dominion to form small factions called Guilds.
Fortunately, there are still a number of Guilds in the Koprulu Sector that remain loyal to the Dominion. One such faction is a mere colonist faction that still lies trust in the Dominion named "Haven's Rangers", led by marshal James Raynor. Recently, Raynor, along with much of Haven's population, has been going through economic issues due to frequent raids targeting their trade routes. Currently, Raynor is spending time in Joey Ray's Grab N' Smash - a popular diner among the Terrans for their well-cooked meals and unique soft drink recipes. However, Raynor isn't solely here for a meal. After ordering his food, Raynor walks to a section of the diner available exclusively for members of the Rangers, where he'll receieve information from one of his scouts related to a recent discovery on the other side of the planet.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raynor activates a Galactic Communication Link using an I.D in his pocket. The device activates and displays a holographic map of Backwater Station. In the left corner of the room, a small chamber activated. When it opened, a cybernetic female Terran, often called "Adjutants" for their role in military support, exited the chamber. On her breastplate was a nametag labeled "C41337 - Stacy". She approached the Comm Link, anticipating she may be needed for the upcoming task.

Stacy: Good afternoon, commander.

James: Good afternoon, Stacy. I recently got word from someone that one of our scouts has found something interesting.

Stacy: Yes. Cadet Y.M Poland claims to have sighted a small city of some sort on the other side of the planet.

James: *Chuckle* Yeah, but aren't there a lot of "small cities" on the other side of the planet?

Stacy: Yes, but this city is likely not Terrran as it'd be pointless to report a "discovery" if said discovery is not unfamiliar.

James: I guess you have a point there. Welp, let's see what the cadet has in store for us...

Raynor dials in the cadet's I.D to send a call to him. When the call was established, a monitor activated and displayed the cadet. It was a clear, starry night from where he stood. He was standing underneath a large tree with his C-14 Rifle tucked in a special scabbard. He was also wearing his standard, yet outdated, CMC Powered Combat Suit. These suits are composed of Neosteel plating covered with common cloths and leathers to help bear a personalized appearance without bearing underwhelming protection.

Poland: Ah, good evening, commander Raynor!

James: Good afternoon, cadet. I heard you found something I may feel interested in, right?

Poland: You'd have to see it to believe it, commander! I'm standing in front of what could be an alien settlement! It's small, but it looks as if it's made out of pure gold!

James: If I need to see it to believe it, why don't you show me?

Poland: Sure thing!

An image popped up on the display. On it showed a glistening city of alien architecture. The inhabitants bore grey scaly skin, crests on the tops of their heads, perfect ponytails, and wore what seemed like a combination of golden armor encrested with diamonds and formal cloths. They looked like wealth and prosperity incarnate. Raynor and Stacy were amazed at what they were witnessing.

James: Wow!I don't know what to say!

Stacy: I find what I see hard to believe! Commander, I suggest we have the cadet broadcast his position to confirm if what we see is legitimate.

James: Alright. Poland, stay right where you are. I'll arrive at your location with an escourt ready. If you move too far from where you are, I'll have to assume that this is all fake. Copy?

Poland: Understood. I just hope they don't see me first! *chuckles*

The transmission ended. The Comm Link turns off and reverts into a typical table.

James: How soon can we get some Dropships ready, Stacy?

Stacy: Two Dropships from Hermes' Deliverers are fully fueled and ready for deployment on your command.

James: Good. Let's get them airborne and meet the cadet.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After five hours of nonstop flight, Raynor and the escourt team arrive at the cadet's location. When they landed, the cadet was repairing damages on his Vulture. Next to him was what seemed like two alien warriors who likely came from the city seen in the distance. One was clad in golden armor with glowing patterns that matched the color of the afternoon sky. In his bracers were swords that looked as though they were forged from something you'd see in a science-fiction movie. The other was a woman with an unknown device that beared design properties similar to that of a jetpack and a cannon, yet it lacked any kind of barrels that could utilize the functions of either. She was armed with a firearm of some sort mounted onto her left bracer. Neither of the two showed any signs of hostility, though.

James: I guess you guys noticed one of our buddies saw your home, huh?

MAlien: We knew you would have noticed our city eventually. You may not know who we are, but we've known of you Terrans for some time now.

James: Is that so? Then why didn't you come and visit us?

FAlien: Aside from the fact we were unaware you were present on this world, we've often received hostile actions from others of your kind. Most of which came from a Terran faction named the "Terran Dominion".

Troop1: The Dominion? I don't remember those guys blasting otherworldly visitors before. Are you certain they weren't guys that stole stuff from them?

Troop2: Wait, I think I've seen you guys before! Aren't you the Protoss?

FAlien: Yes. Why do you ask?

Troop2: You guys have been kidnapping Terrans for quite a while now! Care to explain why you think the Dominion's been shootin' at ya' now?

James: Private, stand down before you make us look bad!

MAlien: We've not abducted any of your kind. You're likely thinking of the Nerazim tribe. They had been conducting experiments on Terrans to help search for a cure for infestation.

James: "Infestation"? What are you talking about? Also, who's the Nerazim?

Medic1: I've heard about it. It's a disease caused by those creatures we had to deal with during the Terran Civil War. Infestation results in the patient suffering from a hideous mutation, followed by a variant of mind control and indoctrination. There's no currently known cure.

FAlien: Those "creatures" are the Zerg. Yes you've not a cure yet, but after a few years of research, the Nerazim was able to find one.

James: That's still kidnapping, ma'am.

FAlien: We're not responsible for the Nerazim's actions. Fortunately, they did return the subjects they used to their rightful homes. But now it's time I bring up the reason we are here in the first place.

James: It'd be wrong of me to interrupt. Go ahead.

MAlien: Our Executor wishes to see you. He wishes to see if an alliance is possible. Many of our resource trade routes are constantly being intercepted by malicious Terran raiding parties.

James: Welcome to the club.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raynor and the two Protoss, along with the cadet and he escourt team, walked over to the largest building in the city. They stopped when they reached a room that looked uncanny to a throne room. The Protoss Executor was sitting on a throne with a Protoss woman beside him and two guards carrying golden futuristic gatling guns. In the room were at least 39 other Protoss dressed in golden armor and rich clothing, along with at least 23 more that were dressed in platinum armor and clad in clothing that was partially more rural than the others. The minerals that had been encrested into their armor were emerald, rather than the diamonds that were encrested in those clad in gold. The Executor rose from his throne.

Executor: Greetings, James Raynor! My name is Tassadar and this is my wife Selendis. We hope you feel welcome in out humble city.

James: It's quite a sight, I'll give it that. So, your little friends here was talking about some kind of alliance?

Tassadar: Yes. Our resources are few, yet our numbers are many. If we work together, we can put an end to these looters' wrongdoings.

James: I can work with that. These supply raids have been bugging me too. My tech isn't up-to-date compared to what other Terran factions got, but I know a woman that can keep our troops up to speed if we play our cards right.

Selendis: So, does that mean an alliance is in order?

James: I don't see why not. What, did you think we'd be stuck here for hours trying to come up with a solution?

Tassadar: No. However, I didn't expect us to forge our alliance his quickly. We'll send some our ships to join your fleet when you're ready.

Troop3: Hell, that was easy!

James: Almost, trooper. If we're gonna put up a fight against the likes of other financially superior Guilds, we're gonna need some help from Mira Han.

Troop4: Mira Han? You mean "Mira's Marauders"? How can working with another Guild be a good idea for getting rid of a Guild?

Protoss1: Executor, does it concur to you as well that these Terrans may be alligned with a hostile Terran faction?

Tassadar: One should not assume, my faithful disciple. We know not all that the Terrans do. But tell me friend Raynor, who are these "Mira's Marauders"?

James: Mira's Marauders are a mercenary faction. As the name says, it's under the command of an old friend of mine - Mira Han. We've known each other since we were kids and she's gotten me outta binds just about as many times I've gotten her outta trouble. I reckon she'll be more than willing to help our cause. I'll call her as soon as I get back to Backwater Station. By then she should be up and at 'em.

Tassadar: Then it seems our alliance just may be off to a flying start. I pray this plan does not falter. We both have few spaces for error and much at stake.

James: This is a moment we call a "gamble". Sometimes big risks like these yield high rewards. I'll be seein' ya soon, Tassadar.

Selendis: Good luck Terrans, I fear we may both need it.
